Favourite moment of Cannes 2015 so far? Charlize Theron nailing it in vibrant yellow Dior gown, glam, gorgeous and very French Riviera.

Introducing a pop of colour into your wardrobe can instantly refresh and bring in the summer (especially with the unreliable British weather). It’s easy (really) especially if you use colour to underpin a capsule summer wardrobe.

Yellow isn’t for everyone, we chose it not only because of Charlize but it was the theme colour of our own Cannes/French Riviera holiday wardrobe.  Pick any bright colour that you like, orangey red and cobalt blue are popular at the moment.  Here’s why bold colour doesn’t have to be confined to movie stars on La Croisette.

Top tip:  If you are wary of colour, think of it as you would any neutral -opt for trousers or a top in a block of colour and keeping everything else simple.

Pair a cropped bright trouser (which remain on trend this season) with a plain white T and a block sandal or flats. Complete with a tan leather jacket and a shopper style bag in a similar bright colour for a day of shopping or coffee with the girls,

…………swap out the white T for metallic vest, white blazer style jacket and bright colour clash court and you are ready for cocktails.

A block colour sun dress works well, especially if you pick one which includes trend inspired detail – this Summer think lace/crochet. This button through sun dress when worn with the white jacket and coloured courts makes a perfect formal look for a summer christening, or day at the races. Add a quirky bag like New Look’s Watermelon one to keep it from being too serious.

Alternatively dress down by adding the leather jacket either with the block heels or go for a flat – instant summer city break chic

Just by adding a coloured jumper with a statement necklace to your basics can lift an outfit to something fun.

Can’t see yourself going full on colourful? Cheat by adding a bright handbag and/or a bright shoe to the classic white jeans and T-shirt combo.
