The best part of winter for us at SYW are the stylish accessories to be sported. The ones that really finish your look whilst being practical enough to keep you snug against the elements.  Personally I have always hankered after living in an era where hats and gloves were de-rigeur and the world was more formal.

Hats

More stylish than a hood, a hat can create instant drama or the focus of an outfit.  This year my love of a great cloche hat has not diminished.  There are some fab ones out there such as this asymmetric plum one from John Lewis.

However there’s a new hot shape in town.  Inspired by Prosecco & Plaid’s Jess Ann Kirby I am adoring the Fedora, just can’t decide on colour!

This multi coloured one by TopShop may be the answer, styled for a casual Sunday. Clockwise from top, Topshop, Wide Brimmed fedora Hat; Mint Velvet, Black and Ivory Crop Knit; Anedoti, Purple Elbow Length Gloves; Zara, Green Leather Trousers; LK Bennett, Scarlett Kid Leather Ankle Boot; Topshop, Textured Blanket Coat.

For men, fedoras and trilby hats can work, the trick is carry it off with confidence.  SYW thinks the allure is because they automatically conjure thoughts of old fashioned chivalry in the style of a Don Draperesque matinee idol, sigh.

Gloves

Everyone deserves a pair of good leather gloves.  The first pair I ever got were from the wonderful Sermoneta Gloves in Milan!  I’ve never looked back.  The very epitome of luxury, leather with a cashmere lining.  Opt for a rich colour with button detail to give an outfit pop and class.  Lilac Rose in Leamington Spa have this great selection

The elbow length glove, not merely reserved for accompanying ball gowns but a great winter wear staple.  A ruche detail elbow length glove can be surprisingly stylish and practical when teamed with a bracelet sleeve jacket or coat.  Try these Anedoti Gloves, they also come in this stunning purple

For men we think classic is always the way to go and love  a well fitted pair of fine black leather gloves, like this pair from Hugo Boss.
